Jamie Williams Grossman
My paintings are an extension of the way I view the world around us. I am a self-proclaimed “color junkie” with an addiction to painting outdoors. Standing in the midst of nature’s sights and sounds, and attempting to capture the experience in paint, is food for my soul. It is a challenge that never gets old, since each day is a brand new experience, and every painting tells its own story. I hope those who view my work can feel some of the wonder that inspires me as my brushes drag across the surface laden with color. For these reasons, I prefer to work from life, and gain my inspiration directly from the source whenever possible.
Jamie Williams Grossman is Chairman of New York Plein Air Painters, and a Signature Member. She also serves as the head of their Lower Hudson Valley Chapter, which has over 225 artists. Her paintings have been featured in USA Weekend, The Journal News, Plein Air Magazine, Putnam County News and Recorder, the Catskill Region Guide, Poughkeepsie Journal, and Bedford Record Review. She is a member of the exclusive Daily Painters group, which exhibits new work online every day. She is represented by RiverWinds Gallery in Beacon, New York, and is a frequent participant in shows throughout the Hudson Valley and Catskills. Her newest work can always be seen on her personal website, https://www.HudsonValleyPainter.com, as it comes off the easel.
Jamie paints mostly in oils and acrylics, but frequently uses other mediums such as pastel, gouache, watercolor, casein, ink, and assorted drawing media. With homes in Putnam and Green Counties, she constantly traverses the territory that was home to the Hudson River School painters, and lends her own contemporary viewpoint to the subject matter. Jamie does many of her paintings as commissioned pieces by clients who request a particular scene, size, medium, or interpretation. She most often paints from life, with subjects ranging from portraits, homes and figures, to animals, landscapes and still life.
Due to her multi-media interests, Jamie has been involved in art materials product testing and advising for several manufacturers and retailers. She tested various formulations of paints for Golden Artist Colors to assist in the development of the Golden OPEN line of acrylic, which dries slower than traditional acrylics. This gives artists the blendability and softer appearance of oils, combined with the faster layering capabilities of acrylic. She paints and sketches every day, and although her preference is small format, she works up to 24×36″ on location, and sometimes larger in the studio. Her work resides in private collections in Canada and Europe, as well as throughout the United States. She maintains two studios in the Hudson Valley, but prefers the “outdoor” studio!
