Marianne Tully
In doing plein air landscape paintings, I wish to capture the tones and forms of nature in my paintings, giving the viewer some of the same experience that I have felt in confronting the exquisite, raw beauty of what I see. In an effort to reflect the energy of the image, I focus on the interplay of light and shadow while using lively brush strokes and atmospheric techniques. My paintings have strong sense of place and show the dynamic order of the natural world.
About the Artist:
Marianne Tully has enjoyed drawing and painting from her earliest crayon drawings to her present work with a group of artists in the Hudson Valley and Catskills doing landscape oil paintings on site. She has studied over the years with artists Brenda Goodman in New York City and F.E.Greene in Catskill, New York. She has a doctorate in philosophy and education from Teachers College, Columbia University. She was a teacher and school administrator for many years, all the while continuing her painting, which she is now doing full-time. Marianne has had two recent solo shows of her paintings: one at Stone Ridge Healing Arts, Stone Ridge, NY (2012) and one at the Lifebridge Foundation Gallery in Rosendale, NY (2012). She has also exhibited in group shows in and around Greene and Ulster Counties, such as the Kaaterskill Fine Arts Gallery, Hunter, NY (2011 and a juried show, 2013), the Agroforestry Resource Center Gallery, Acra, NY (2013), and ongoing exhibits at the Astor House Gallery, Tannersville, NY (2010-1013). She lives with her husband in the hamlet of Lyonsville, near Stone Ridge, NY.
