Sheila Trautman
As a watercolorist, Sheila’s paintings reflect the essence of the light, color, texture, and mood that she observes in the ever-changing landscapes of the beautiful countryside.
Her watercolors benefit from a combination of planning and spontaneity, which result in paintings that look effortless but actually take thought and planning. Her paintings are at their best when the colors mix freely and the paints seem to talk for themselves. Painting pleine-aire as often as possible, she tries to communicate the fundamental spirit of the scenes she observes. The reflections, colors, shapes, and contrasts of city buildings also inspire her.
She paints both pleine-aire and in the studio. Sheila lives in Jewett NY where the Catskill Mountains provide a never-ending source of inspiration. The mountains and rivers have become her playground, enjoying hiking, biking, kayaking, skiing, and just observing the world around her. She also enjoys traveling and documenting her adventures through her art but always returns home to the mountains.
She is an active member of the art community and is on the board of both the Greene County Council on the Arts and the Windham Arts Alliance in New York. She is also a member of the Art Center Watercolor Affiliates (ACWA) in New Milford, New Jersey and the Hudson River Artists Guild in Hunter, New York. She continues to exhibit her work in juried shows in both New York and New Jersey.
