Susan Kukle
Artist Statement:
Nature is my inspiration. I most enjoy spending time in the great wild in all seasons. Hiking through forests, climbing cliffs and hills, meandering along creek beds, foraging for mushrooms, and searching out curious earth forms, all fill me with the wonder and the strength to illustrate the landscapes I produce. Susan S. Kukle
My Artwork:
Since I was a youngster growing up away from urban life in Platte Clove, part of the Catskill Mountains, I have worked plein air.
As I sit in concentration and work on my painting, often for hours, I lose myself in a meditative frame of mind. My style is expressive and impressionistic with more of a drawing method capturing the view. My images are alive with texture, light and bright hues.
I have replicated a Victorian house and construct floor cloths which are painted rugs, create button jewelry made with retro materials and paint installation murals.
Education:
BFA Pratt Institute
Study abroad in Florence and Paris
Traveled by land ‘half-way round the world’… and still traveling.
Work Experience:
Teaching art in Brooklyn NY, Boston MA & Connecticut public schools
Washington County Museum, Hagerstown, MD
Guilford Handcrafts-Arts Center, CT
Exhibits:
Tri-state area including Hunter, Haines Falls, Catskill and Windham, NY
